Time to detox

Time to Detox

April 01, 20254 min read

Spring has arrived. The daffodils are out in full bloom, the birds are more active and vocal. New life is springing forth and our bodies are waking up after their slumber during winter. You may feel your energy stirring and wanting to do more and be more active. This is nature’s way, after death comes new life.

Now is the perfect time to start setting some intentions and goals for the year (if that resonates), to cleanse your body in order to clear out stagnant energy, to declutter and get rid of what no longer serves you. This is the real start of the year for those of us in the northern hemisphere.

It is also the
time of the liver and gallbladder, so a great time to give these organs some love and attention through detoxing and cleansing, stretching out muscles, tendons and ligaments to get the body moving again. Releasing any stored anger, frustration and irritation and focusing on being flexible and going with the flow.

Last year I took part in a 30 day community cleanse, which I intend to do again after Easter later this month. We started with preparation to get the body ready to cleanse by cleaning up our diet and cutting things like caffeine and sugar. We then focused on cleansing and clearing the gut by doing a parasite cleanse using
supplements and essential oils, where we focused on letting go physically and emotionally what no longer serves us. The last phase was replenishing the good bacteria into the gut and healing on a cellular level using supportive oils and probiotics.

I’d like to share some of the things we focused on to help you start your journey into Spring.

There are
many different ways to cleanse so find something that resonates with you and you feel you would be able to do.

  • You can simply start by cleaning up your diet. Cutting down or out things like caffeine, sugar, processed foods. Introducing more vegetables especially greens. Nature offers what we need at this time of year in the dandelions, nettles, cleavers and wild garlic that have sprung up. Perhaps go do some foraging.

  • Use a parasite cleanse for a week such as garlic or herbs like Oregano, Cloves, Black Walnut, Wormwood and Pumpkin seeds.

  • After the cleanse, take a probiotic to add back the good bacteria to your gut.

  • Increase your hydration through water or herbal teas to help your body detox.

  • Body brushing helps to remove dead skin cells and get your lymph and circulation moving. Get a natural bristled brush and start from your feet moving from the outside in and up towards your heart. Don’t brush the chest.

  • Cold water therapy helps to improve circulation and stimulates the immune system. Try having a shower and alternating between hot and cold and ending on a cold. You will feel invigorated and energised afterwards. This is best done in the morning.

  • Intermittent fasting is very healing, choose a stage that works for you. Try not eating from dinner to breakfast aiming for at least 12 hours. You could also try having juices in the morning stretching to 14 hours or liquids till lunch, either juices or smoothies, stretching to 16 hours a couple times a week. When you fast for 16 hours your body goes into a healing process called autophagy, where it starts repairing at a cellular level.

  • Decluttering or the practice of Hygge (pronounced Hoo-gah), which is a Danish concept and a way of living in comfort, slowness, intimacy and simplicity. It’s true essence is pursuing everyday happiness. Clearing your space, clears your energy. It helps you to let go and invite the new in. Start small by clearing your bedside table surface if you have one. Then the drawer, moving on to your underwear drawer then your cupboard. You can go through your home and start clearing starting with your entrance hall, so it feels good when you walk through your door and into your home. Clear out your fridge and freezer, your living space. Don’t let it be overwhelming. Start with 5 minutes if that’s all you have or set a timer so it doesn’t feel too much. Go slowly. You will be amazed at the shift in your energy when you do this.

  • Journalling can also be helpful as you move through these stages of letting go and allow yourself to create a vision for the year ahead. Tune in to your higher wisdom and allow yourself to get creative. Notice what emotions may surface that need to be released.

I hope these suggestions help, pick what resonates and go at your own pace.

What would you like to let go of as we head into Spring?

I would love to hear from you, let me know what amazing things are on the horizon for you this year and what you feel called to release and let go of.
