Slow down and recharge
Are you in a cycle of constant doing? Do you have endless items on your list of things you need to do, which seemingly never seem to get done? Do you feel like everyday melts into the next where you wake up, are busy non-stop all day and then fall into bed at night exhausted without much sense of achievement, only to get up the next day and do it all over again? Do you feel overwhelmed and irritable due to feeling that you have no time left for yourself?
If this sounds familiar and rings true for you then you need to take your foot off the gas and slow down. It is so easy for our lives to speed up to break neck speed with all the demands out there for our time, whether it be work, looking after kids, cleaning the house, checking and responding to emails, being on social media, helping others, shopping or whatever else fills your days. If we keep going at this pace, we will only burn ourselves out and won’t be any good to anyone.
If you are feeling that your life is spinning out of control and is far too busy and unbalanced, then it is time to put steps in place to slow it down so that you can have more enjoyment and start really living. When we are too busy, we aren’t able to tune in and to hear our inner guidance because our mind is too busy. When we are too busy we are usually living in our heads with constant mental chatter and thoughts of what we still have to do. This creates a sense of overwhelm. When this is the case we aren’t in the right space to be still, which is what we need in order to re-centre ourselves or reset ourselves.
Slowing down is as simple as making a choice. Choosing what is more important to you to get done and what can wait, in order to give yourself more quality time. It also helps to turn off mobile phones and computers by a certain time in the evening and doing something other than watching TV for yourself on a daily basis. We all need to create and it is amazing how good it feels to create something, whether it be a nice meal, arranging some flowers, knitting or a craft project, doing some gardening or anything that involves using your hands. Don’t be afraid to get to know yourself, the only way you can do that is by spending time with yourself just as you would spend time with someone to get to know them. Try and remember what you loved to do when you were a child, remember how care free you were with the most important thing being to play and have fun. As adults we tend to disconnect from our playful, fun side. We don’t ever lose it but we do sometimes need a bit of help remembering that it is there and reconnecting with it.
Try doing one thing at a time and do it properly until it is completed. This will give a greater sense of achievement than trying to do numerous tasks simultaneously as you will not be able to give each task your full attention. Remember to have breaks in your day to recharge. Allow yourself to sit quietly, breathe and be still without doing something else at the same time. This will allow you to be more productive, if you push on full steam ahead and don’t allow yourself to rest, you will eventually run out of steam and have to stop. Being still allows you to be fully present in the moment, which is where you want to be. Being still will also improve the relationships with those around you as you will have a calmer presence which touches those who come into contact with you.
How will you slow down and be still today?
I would love to hear from you so please send me an email or post on my facebook page or Instagram and let me know how you create space and restore balance by slowing down.
With love,
