Self Care
Self Care is something we all need but most of us are lacking. We end up getting stuck in our routines and habits with time whizzing by and the days tend to go by on autopilot. We may not even realise that we are stuck in a rut until our body lets us know by getting ill or developing some form of dis-ease.
We are so good, especially as women, at giving and caring for others. We give out energy at work, looking after our families, caring for loved ones, helping friends and doing chores. But what do we do for ourselves?
Think of it like an energy bank account. If you are constantly withdrawing you will soon become overdrawn. You need to be making deposits so that you have reserves for when life may get a little bumpy.
How often do you tune in to yourself to see what you need? Or are you too busy rushing around taking care of everyone else?Self Care is something that should be done everyday, not once a month or less frequently. It doesn’t have to be something big, it can be as simple as carving out some time for yourself to just be still with no distractions and have a cup of tea and flip through a magazine. Or going for a walk. It can be anything that makes you feel good and helps you to feel topped up and energised.
If you are feeling tired, anxious, overwhelmed or irritable, chances are you need to add more Self Care into your life.
Here are some suggestions to help you take better care of yourself:
Don’t be afraid to ask for help, you don’t have to do everything yourself. If you have a family, allocate chores.
Start your day well. Don’t jump out of bed and rush into your day otherwise that is the day you will have with lots of rushing. Try and be mindful when you get up and create a rhythm that works for you that allows you to ease into your day.
Get off technology, which can be distracting and suck up your time and energy. It also keeps you in your head and you want to be tuning into your body. Turn notifications off and check it when it suits you.
Get enough rest, make sure you aren’t going to bed too late so you can wake up feeling refreshed allowing your body enough time to repair.
Eat a well-balanced wholefood diet avoiding processed food and sugar.
Hydrate well. In winter if you don’t feel like drinking water then drink herbal teas or hot water with lemon.
Supplement if you need to. Sometimes we need a little extra support depending on what is going on in our lives. If you are dealing with stress in your life, a good B Complex will support you. If you are feeling overwhelmed by all your responsibilities, Sepia homeopathic remedy is a great support.
Create a Self Care jar and put all the things you love to do that make you feel good in. Everyday pull out one and do that.
Be gentle with yourself and don’t criticise yourself. Instead talk kindly to yourself like you would to a friend.
Don’t be afraid to say No! Often we want to please others and feel we can’t say No to requests. You can. Simply ask yourself if it is something you want to do and if it isn’t, decline politely. No reasons are required.
Allow yourself to have fun.
Practicing Self Care is an act of loving yourself and that is something we could all do with. You deserve to feel good and nurtured.
What will you do this month to nurture and top yourself up?
I would love to hear from you, let me know what you do to top yourself up or what you will be trying this month.
With love,
