Connecting with your Intuition
‘The simplest kind of guidance comes every day, and many times a day in the form of discomfort.’
Barbara Ann Brennan
We all have an inner guidance system that we can access to help us live a balanced and healthy life. If we follow this inner guidance, we would rarely get sick. It is that inner voice that speaks to you and helps you make decisions, that gut feel or knowing deep within you. The simplest way our Intuition helps us is through discomfort in our body and life.
You may feel physical discomfort, which is your body trying to tell you that you are out of balance and some attention is needed to restore the balance. You may need to change your diet and eat healthier foods or exercise and move your body in a way that feels good to you or have a check-up or get more rest. Pain is there to get your attention and shouldn't be suppressed by taking pain killers, without delving into why you may be experiencing pain. What in your life needs to change?
You may feel discomfort through your emotions. Perhaps you have suppressed past experiences or uncomfortable emotions like anger, sadness or grief that need to have a voice and expression. Instead of trying to swallow them and keep them in, listen to the guidance and notice what is underneath the emotion, how is it making you feel and what do you need to do to release it. The only way emotions can release is if you allow yourself to feel them. Do you have suppressed emotions that need to come out?
You may feel discomfort mentally, with negative thoughts swirling around your head or feel anxious or flat. Examine what you are worrying about and whether it feels rational and justified to worry about or irrational and unlikely to happen. Write your thoughts down as it helps to stop it from swirling around your head.
You could have spiritual discomfort and feel unmotivated or lacking purpose in your life, feeling like you are bobbing along with no real direction. What do you need to feel fulfilled and purposeful? How can you restore your sense of wonder and passion for life?
It may feel tempting to take medication if you are experiencing pain, or eat or drink to fill an emptiness deep within you, or distract yourself from uncomfortable emotions instead of allowing yourself to feel the discomfort. Use the discomfort to start a dialogue with your inner guidance or higher self. What is it trying to tell you?
Our inner guidance is always there and is always communicating with us. It can be really subtle, like a whisper, if ignored it gets louder until if necessary, it will make you listen usually with you ending up with an illness. In order to hear the guidance, we need to slow down and create space and quiet time. This is not something a lot of us do as we rush around from one thing to the next, being busy and juggling. It also requires having a break from digital distraction, which seems to rule our lives nowadays. Creating stillness and space in your life allows you to be present and in the moment, where all is well. It brings clarity and helps you tune in and connect with yourself. Getting into nature helps us to to feel centred and connect with ourselves and all that we are connected to, as we are a part of nature. Go for a walk and listen to the birds sing, notice everything around you and see what happens.
As you start following your inner guidance you will rest when you are tired, you will eat when you are hungry and you will give your body what it needs when it needs it. You know what you need better than anyone else, practice tuning in and trusting the guidance that comes.
What is your Intuition trying to tell you?
