Are you stuck in Overwhelm
Do you sometimes feel like life is spinning too fast and you want to say "Hey stop the world, I want to get off?" You wake up in the morning and dread getting up as you know you have a full day and aren't sure how you are going to get to everything. You feel exhausted before you even start your day. You may feel numb like there is just nothing left to give. You sit on the floor in your bedroom, feeling at the bottom and you just want to check out of this life. Or you want someone to take care of you for a change.
This is where I was and do you want to know why I was feeling this way, it was because I was in total overwhelm. I was focusing on all that I had to do to keep things running smoothly at home for my family, running a business and working, giving, giving, giving. But I forgot one very important thing, to allow myself to receive and have balance in my day. I didn't ask for help and if help was offered I didn't accept it. I thought I had to do it all and make it look effortless or else I would be seen as weak, but we can't do it all without getting some help. And trust me no one out there is judging you and thinking you are weak for not being Superwoman. The only one judging me was me. So I discovered.
This has been a process over many years getting from the place where I was to where I am now. And it is still an ongoing journey but the awareness grows with time and it gets a bit easier with a bit of practice.
I realised that when I had really busy days with too much packed in and I had over-committed myself, I would feel overwhelmed, exhausted and discouraged by the end of my day. On the days where I was more realistic with my expectations, I felt more relaxed and a sense of satisfaction when I was able to get everything done. The key I discovered is Balance. We have to ensure that every day we have Balance. It is not something that should be underestimated or put off, it is crucial for your health and your well-being. If you are in a chronic state of Overwhelm it will wear you down and affect you mentally and emotionally. This in turn will weaken your physical body and immune system and may result in you getting sick.
Some tips for stopping the Overwhelm and restoring Balance to your day:
Start your day slow, allow yourself to wake up without jumping out of bed and rushing into your day
Don't over plan your day, be realistic with what you can manage
Have regular breaks, even if just for 5 minutes to sit and rest
Don't forget to eat, you don't want to reach for sugar laden snacks when your blood sugar drops
Plan some time in your day for yourself to do something enjoyable
When you feel the Overwhelm creep in, stop what you are doing and breathe deeply until you feel the calm restore
Don't rush, I have found this causes so much unnecessary stress. Give yourself more than enough time
Have fun and laugh whenever you can
Get out into nature or go for a walk, I always find this makes me feel better
